Worcester Wolves’ Managing Director Mick Donovan hopes the team can reward fans’ loyalty with a Final day out as he looks ahead to this week’s BBL Cup clash. The University of Worcester-owned side prepares to face Sheffield Sharks for a place in the final in Birmingham. Donovan said: "We are very proud and appreciative of our loyal fans and this season has seen record breaking home attendances compared to previous seasons. Worcester Wolves have signed Great Britain star Robert Gilchrist on a temporary contract. The 6ft 9in power forward made his debut in yesterday's fixture against Plymouth Raiders, as the Wolves climbed above their opponents in the BBL standings. Gilchrist scored 14 points, with 8 rebounds on his first outing. Paul James, Wolves Head Coach, said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of such a high quality player as Robert Gilchrist. Even though this is a short term solution, we have a very hectic December schedule and this will bolster our squad while we look for a permanent fixture.” Gilchrist joins the Wolves after playing at Spanish side Araberri last season in the Liga Española de Baloncesto Oro, the second basketball division of the Spanish basketball league, where he averaged 6.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Worcester Wolves head coach Paul James has praised former GB captain Drew Sullivan following his retirement from the game. Sullivan - who made over 100 appearances for his country - announced his decision earlier this year. He led a team to victory one more time yesterday with London beating the World 89-84 in his testimonial. Paul James coach of the Worcester Wolves, has come up against Sullivan as a coach a number of times over the years and says he has a lasting legacy on the British game. James said: "I think he has been phenomenal for the British game, the ultimate professional. I haven't really had the pleasure to work with Drew, but to see the way he handled himself on and off the court, you could see he was very serious about his basketball and his success has happened because of that. The University of Worcester and the Worcester Wolves welcomed one of Europe’s most respected coaches to the city last week, to discuss an innovative potential future partnership. Chechu Mulero, the Sporting Director of Euroleague outfit Valencia Basketball Club, visited Worcester for discussions which focused on establishing a link between the Spanish giants and the Worcester Wolves, who are now a subsidiary company of the University. Any such partnership could include training camps and friendly fixtures for Valencia’s senior team in Worcester, collaborative coaching clinics and player development schemes, for the benefit of both parties. The Wolves have lost Zaire Taylor to BBL opponents London Lions but will be hoping to continue last seasons successes.  The Worcester side signed up Robert Thurman having been recommended to the team by former player Will Creekmore.  Thurman said: "He [Will] spoke to me one day and said that he had a team I'd be interested in and how awesome it is to be in Worcester - he sold me on the idea immediately. The first game this weekend saw the undefeated Worcester Wolves take on the currently winless Manchester Giants. Will Creekmore would lead all scoring a double double of 24 points and 12 rebounds while also scoring 100% from the free throw line with 7/7. Manchester would finish with 4 players in double digits for points with David Aliu top scoring with 15. Worcester would start the game strong finishing the first quarter leading 24-16 before finishing the second half an impressive 24 points in front of the visiting Giants, with a half time score of 54-30. Manchester would rally back and win the 3rd quarter 19-15 and the final quarter would be the closest yet with Worcester edging 19-17. The Wolves managed a massive 117-60 win away in Surrey while the Riders crushed the Knights 90-56 at the John Sandford Centre. The Worcester Wolves have done some shrewd business since the end of the 2012/13 BBL season with signing of Leicester Riders' Zaire Taylor amongst the names joining the roster. The Wolves will be hoping that they can build upon last season where they managed victories over the Newcastle Eagles and Leicester Riders in various competitions, finishing up the season the play-off quarter-finals. The BBL continued this weekend with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and there was a shock or two to be had. Newcastle Eagles started the weekend top of the BBL ladder but suffered a shock defeat to Cheshire Phoenix on Friday. The loss makes it two defeats in a row following the BBL Trophy loss to the Worcester Wolves and gave Leicester Riders the chance to move up to the top with a two point lead. Leicester played the Manchester Giants on Saturday and sent a message to their ladder rivals with an impressive 84-59 victory. Both teams also had a Sunday game with Newcastle beating Plymouth Raiders 79-96 but the Riders would also win against Cheshire Phoenix to stay two points ahead.
